THE ORDER OF THE GARTER

“Founded by King Edward III in 1350. 

While attending a court ball, the beautiful Countess of Salisbury’s blue satin garter fell to the floor.  

The King retrieved it, and on hearing the courtiers titter, cried,

​

“Honni soit qui mal y pense”—“Evil to him who evil thinks”.  

​

Then Edward pinned the garter on his own breast—

thus the “order of the Garter” became a coveted honor.”
